The BJYX Store!

Ok, it wasn’t a whole BJYX store, but it did have a BJYX section! It was an idol store, whose existence I was tipped off to by @marlo-noni. This mall (Shanghai Joy City) had two idol stores in addition to a million anime/donghua/etc stores–I’ll make separate posts for all the non-bjyx merch I saw (and bought). Both idol stores were 75% kpop but with Cpop/Cdrama sections if you looked around.

And this one had an actual shelf that was not labeled Xiao Zhan or Wang Yibo or both, but actually labeled 博君一肖 bjyxszd!

It wasn’t huge, but the fact that it’s still there five years after the Untamed aired speaks volumes about how mainstream this is.

Yes, there was a full-size (well, not quite as tall as he really is) XZ cutout next to it. :)

It had a lot of stuff that was just XZ or just WYB–photo cards (which seem VERY popular, they were like 50% of the content of both idol stores), standees, pins, etc–but also actual BJYX merchandise! Mostly fanart-based, some of which I'd seen before. This stuff was definitely not officially licensed by either of them (which makes me wonder if anything in this store besides the K-pop CDs was actually officially licensed?)

This store (I wish I'd taken more photos of the whole store, tbh) had a ton of these double-sided posters/banners about 6"x18" for all the different idols, and in addition to individual ones for XZ and WYB they had a whole bunch of BJYX ones. They were on the shelves with the other banners, rather than in the BJYX section. I wound up buying three–the first photo is one side of each, the second photo is the other (not sure which is "front" and "back").

I'm honestly not sure what "Doll's Fate" is about on that third one. Tagging in the BJYX experts: @rainbowsky @accio-victuuri @wwx-lwj-ai-ni @bjyxobsessed any of you know what that's referring to?

The other idol store in Shanghai Joy City wasn't as explicit about the BJYX, but they did have a whole shelf just for the two of them, separate from all the other Cpop people:

All the merch was just one boy or the other, though, I couldn't find anything with both on one item, let alone explicitly shippy.

For the record, I scoured three malls in Beijing (SoShow, Xidan Joy City, and Chaoyang Joy City) and while I found various other cool merch, I could not find any dedicated idol stores in any of them. Although I will admit I didn't have time to go through Chaoyang JC as thoroughly as the others – these malls are all huge, like 8-11 stories!

Bonus #1: This eyeglasses kiosk that was right outside the bjyx store knew exactly what it was doing:

Bonus #2: Can you believe they just happened to be playing Wu Ming when I was browsing the BJYX merch? It's not surprising that they were playing music by the idols they sold, but the fact that they just happened to play one of Yibo's songs in the 15 or so minutes I was there was amazing.

It's been multiple months since the mansion incident

The legal case lasted a good while, but no evidence was found against any of the survivors, so they are okay now.

The blood did not leave their clothes. They got new ones.

Oliver Beebo wakes up another day in his apartment. While a lot of his nights have bizarre nightmares, this one was calm.

Even though they are no longer on vacation, Ángel still stayed on Oliver's apartment, but they plan on staying some time in the capital, just to see what it's like.

He uses all types of products he can find to heal his scar. Beebo doesn't mind much. it's part of the job, he says.

They've been living a calm and domestic day to day life, with ups and down.

The downs are, very down indeed

But the ups are more often.

They got matching tattoos of a sunrise, it makes them feel better.

Oliver has started taking cases again, but he's going for simpler ones.

He has told his fellow detectives to keep an eye out for seemingly supernatural cases.

Ángel has declared that he will invite himself to any case that involves a haunted house. Oliver doesn't fight him on it

They both have gained new fears

Ángel gets very anxious when they're separated for too long. He's also terrible at guessing what time it is

Oliver makes a great effort in overcoming his fear of heights. It's a work on progress.

He's also afraid of developing any kind of memory affecting disease. He keeps an incredibly detailed diary

They are getting help. It's slow and nonlinear, but they can always go to a warm home with a cuddly cat and a tight hug.

Vivi invites Oliver for an exclusive 2-player session with Ángel, as a test for his dnd abilities, she says.

While he's not that good at the role playing, he's very good at strategy. He really enjoys lawful characters.

They have fun.

Marigold and Nina were also invited. It made for a very chaotic group.

Ángel wants to start a new game so he can upload it to his newly made youtube channel

He wasn't satisfied with a normal 9 to 5, so he decided for a more creative job.

He's slowly rising, with titles such as "Doing the 100 babies challenge in The sims 4," "RLcraft hardcore for 100 days", "Top 10 facts about Dominion the jewel thief", "Finishing Overcooked with all stars ft. Vivi", and his personal favorite, "Speedrunning Escape rooms with my bf ❤️"

He claims to be Dominion's number one fan and sells plushies of him. Oliver will never admit he bought one.

Apparently, he is considered a cryptid in Ángel's channel, which he appreciates.

The now officially named Iraola family invites them to events quite often, it's very nice to have a friend group

Game nights are... quite extreme

Turns out teenagers can be very competitive and capable

Nadia and Ángel have a scoreboard set up. The winner gets decided at New years.

Oliver has managed to keep his throne as the master of any and all card games, but for how long?

He can't wait for Christmas, he plans on giving Simon a cool anti-eye contact hat.

Even though he's still terrified of the concept of fatherhood, he really enjoys being an uncle.

Speaking of such, Ángel had to meet his parents. It was awkward at first, but he managed to win them over with his knowledge of old cinema and pretty boy charm.

Oliver met the Ronald Mcdonald statue by Ángel's childhood house. He has a picture with it.

Ángel's mother was sweet, hardworking, and strict. She was not afraid of telling her son how he should be a better gentleman towards Oliver. It was... an eventful night. It's a good thing the lady enjoys mystery novels.

They celebrated Nadia's birthday in spring, cordially invited.

Everyone was sure Ángel would give her a gag gift, like a cd to a boy band she doesn't like or an ugly shirt.

He gave her a key code to an expensive editing software.

She was grateful but refused to say so. She plans on retaliating with an equally thoughtful gift.

They are slowly learning to get along, like a pair of cats that need to be separated by a door when they first meet.

In other news, Oliver recently received an autism diagnosis. He was very surprised. Ángel wasn't. He baked him a cake for the occasion.

The biggest event had to be the wedding

On a warm spring day, in the middle of a flower field, Marigold Iraola and Nina Coli got married.

There was some bad press about it, but a certain reporter was very enthusiastic about how beautiful of an union this was, unlike the previous one.

Marigold decided to disband Coli's company, making a new one herself.

It specializes in medical equipment.

They saw the newlyweds say their vows, Oliver couldn't help but yearn for a moment like that.

He and Ángel danced the evening away

Between the multiple friends of the wives waiting for the bouquet toss, there was a determined man in white

And like a cat to a shiny object

He jumped and got it

They decide spring is a great season for a wedding.

They don't decide which spring though

That's for the future to know.

In a non-specific urban city like any other, an office awakes

1) NOTE: Script editor was Maxine Exley (later Alderton)!. KATIE has harsh words for Debbie who plans some revenge on her and Andy for what they did to Daz with Jasmine’s help involving ewes. The revenge only causes chaos not only for Andy’s livelihood but for Laurel nearly having an accident. Sadie and Alasdair reach an amicable rapproachment but not with Rosemary. Pollard sees Alice’s fundraising as a campaign plus for him. 2) Sadie gets what she wants from the Sinclairs infuriating Rosemary. Pollard uses the check presentation as a PR push. It’s Victoria birthday where she’s cold toward Katie as is Daz but Jack sees things differently (Daz the new Robert?) 🙄.

UK START TIME FOR TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY: 1:20 P.M.

1) Rosemary gets the last laugh with Sadie as the million dollar company she was expecting to get is now worth nothing and she just ate her horse Cossack 🤢🤮! Rodney apologizes to Paul for not understanding his sexuality and that he’s proud of him. Jamie’s keeping some of the cafe’s profits and Viv’s not amused. 2) Tom is offered to buy his rival’s haulage but leaves it to Jimmy when distressing news has him headed to Spain. Paul moves back into Rodney’s. A CD leads to final closure between Paul and Ivan. Rodney offers Jamie a challenge.

06-Nov: 04-Apr-2006 (4327), 05-Apr-2006 (4328)

1) It’s 70s disco night at the Woolie with Rodney trying to get Paul and Ivan back together. Steph surprises Adam by moving his things into her room! Adam won’t talk about his past to Steph. Alice admits her fading body is winning over her will to live. Jamie’s attempt to sell a vase fails. 2) Ivan wants to try again but Paul doesn’t feel the same prompting Ivan to leave for a while. Adam’s tolerance level about Steph and Betty wanting to know about his past reaches a breaking point. Jamie finds a way to get rid of the vase to his advantage. Terry wants a larger role in TJ’s life.

UK START TIME FOR THURSDAY & FRIDAY: 1:35 P.M.

07-Nov: 06-Apr-2006 (4329), 07-Apr-2006 (4330)

1) Adam’s ex, Isla, shows up making Steph believe Adam’s good mood is about her. Adam proposes to Steph only for her to admit to killing Shelley! Dawn blows Terry’s money for TJ on drinks. Pearl finally gets a chance to talk with her grandson in Hong Kong. 2) Adam needs time to let Steph’s revelation to sink in. Lesley’s phone service has been cut off. Jamie’s back at the cafe with ideas which Viv won’t consider. Fine, Jamie will just open a mobile cafe! Edna receives a wedding invitation from granddaughter Eve!

08-Nov: 09-Apr-2006 (4331), 10-Apr-2006 (4332)

1) Leslie uses Rodney’s credit card she finds to pay her phone bill before cutting it up to avoid further temptation. Both Lesley and Pearl are barely scrimping by as is Dawn with Jo not paying full rent. Adam is horrified that Terence apparently knows the truth about his past! 2) A repayment letter to Dawn devastates her. Seeing Scott with a brand new car has Dawn trashing it. An incriminating newspaper article sent by Terence has Adam ready to flee the country! Lesley seeks employment with the Kings. Hari moves into the village.

Chapter Six (Part 2)

Later on, I arrive home to a house that smells like butter and sugar. My dad mutters a gruff “howya” through the ajar living room door as I hang up my coat and bag on the stairs. He’s watching snooker. I pause at the door. “How’s it going?”

“Grand yeah. Good match?”

I shrug. “It was alright. Not sure I’m converted into a football lover yet.”

“Tullamore win?”

“Yep.”

“Good stuff.” 

I go through to the kitchen where my mam is cleaning, as usual, and even though it’s turned cold while autumn has blown in, she’s in a sweat, wiping her brow with her sleeve as she works the mop into the floor with a vigour. 

“Hi.” I say. “Were you baking?”

“I was. A bit of tea brack.”

“Aw, yuck.”

“Yuck yourself. It’s always the sweeties with you, chocolate this, jellies that, there’s nothing wrong with a bit of good old fashioned brack.”

“Well I don’t like sultanas. Still.” I remind her. “Do you have anything for me?”

She stops cleaning and rests her elbow on the end of the mop. “What kind of ‘thing’?”

“I dunno, something quick, I just want to grab something before I get the bus back.”

She makes an outraged sound, shaking her head as she swipes the mop across the floorboards. “Sure you’re only just home and you’re gone again!”

“Yeah I know, there’s just not much to do here, I was going to go back and sort myself out for work on Monday, like, I dunno, maybe go to the stationary shop and get new pens.”

“New pens.” She repeats, like the thought of me wanting to get them is completely ridiculous. “If you want something to do I’ll find something for you to do.”

“Well, I don’t particularly-” I begin, but she’s already had an idea, so protest is futile. 

“You’ll clean your room.” She announces, and I groan. “Mam, no, I don’t have the energy for that.”

“It’s a tip! I’m sick of going up there and having to look at the mess on the floor, you’d think that you being long moved out would mean the place’d be spotless, but no-”

“Just shut the door then and you won’t have to look.” 

“-it’s still a state, every day. The amount of stuff you have in there that’s old and doesn’t fit you, or is no use to you whatsoever. The last time I was in there I saw the shoes I got you when you were going into your junior cert year, they’ve the soles hanging off them and all. What use are five year old shoes to you now?”

I roll my eyes. “Mam…” she props the mop against the counter and starts rifling through the bottom drawer in the kitchen. She seizes a roll of bin bags and tosses them at me. I miss, and they unroll ridiculously across the tiles. As I’m bending down to pick up and re-roll it she announces. “You’re going to go up there now and get rid of everything that you don’t want anymore. Put your clothes in a bag for the charity shop. And then you’re going to dust and hoover every inch of it, and it’s going to be sparkling clean when you’re done.”

“Yeah. Alright. Fine.”

“Good woman.” She says, wielding the mop once again. “I’ll bring you up a sandwich in a while. Off you go.” 

I’d never admit it to her, but my mother is right about my room. It’s bad. It’s always been bad, and while I’ve never explicitly cared that much about how bad it is, I can’t truthfully deny that it’s unacceptable. I don’t even know where to begin. I know that under the bed is crammed with stuff, old school books, birthday cards I can never bring myself to throw away, photographs, art supplies, sketchbooks. 

The wardrobes are bursting with clothes, none of which I wear, seeing as my entire adult wardrobe lives with me in Dublin. The drawer where I pulled the Tullamore jersey from earlier has collapsed off its roller slides and lies crookedly, half of it on the floor with piles of t-shirts and mismatched pyjamas spilling out of it. A cheaply constructed wall shelf my dad put up when I was ten is bowed in the middle from the weight of the old teen magazines I used to collect and props up the broken CD player I got from uncle Sean on my first holy communion. Looking at all of it makes heat rise to my neck and my chest heave slightly in panic. I don’t even know where to begin. 

I leave the bin bags on the floor and drop to my knees amongst piles of clothes and shoes, bits of useless papers and old bags. The breath that exits me is shuddering. What’s wrong with me? Why do I let things get like this? I pick up the first thing that my hand touches; A knee length white sock that was part of my school uniform. I haven’t worn these socks in over two years. I don’t even have faith that I’ll locate the other one, and I don’t care enough about it to try. This is the first thing that goes into a bin bag. 

After this it gets increasingly easier. Gone are the mickey mouse pyjama bottoms with an unravelling seam, the stack of coloured paper, scribbled with sketches I never liked, the lid of a vanilla body spray that I used up years ago, expired mascara, a tea stained leather coaster, broken earphones, the padlock from my old locker without its corresponding key. Before too long I have cleared the floor, exposing the carpet to the light for the first time in years, probably. I’d half forgotten what colour it was. I tackle the wardrobe next. 

There’s not much that interests me in it, out of style clothes, clothes that were potentially never in style in the first place. A heaping mass of hoodies, leggings, jersey shorts with drawstring waists and t-shirts, the clothes of a girl who desired only to blend in, dreading terribly the day that somebody might comment on her outfit. All of it goes into the charity shop bag. I am ruthless. Not a single item is spared. 

Once the clothes have been cleared, I turn my attention to the suitcase and the gear bags piled at the bottom. I recall that the suitcase is broken, those wheels got me nowhere on our school tour to Paris in fourth year, and I remember how a rock from the pavement got trapped in the wheel, preventing it from spinning, but instead of fixing it and holding up the tour, I decided just to drag the bag behind me, the bottom corner of it scraping horrendously against the paths until the wheel was worn completely flat on one side. I have few good memories from that tour anyway, as for most of it Kelly was in a strop over something that happened on the ferry, and went off with girls from her new maths class instead, leaving me alone to forge an emergency friendship with a group of Polish girls who refused to speak English to me even though they were fluent. I toss the suitcase into the discard pile by the door, then grab a gear bag.

There are things still inside one of them. I’m surprised to find it heavy, so I curiously lay it at my knees and undo the zip. More clothes. Yellow swimming togs. A few pairs of ankle socks, a denim skirt. I chuckle to myself as I uncover a pair of knickers. I remember these, mint green with a decal of Ariel from The Little Mermaid on them, the most embarrassing pair of underwear I ever had, and kept until I was far too old for them. I put them straight into the bin.

The bottom of the bag is grainy with sand, and when my fingers brush over it I’m transported back to the sunshine and the smell of salty air. This is the bag I brought to the mobile home that summer three years ago. I don’t realise I’m holding my breath as I look through it until my chest starts to hurt and I force it out of me. Memories from those scorching months spring up with every old piece of clothing I draw out of it. It’s so vivid that I can practically feel the sunshine on my face. It’s like a time capsule. I’m surprised I never unpacked this bag. Was it too painful to? Was I too distracted?  

At the end is a rolled up t-shirt, soft, grey, worn. I unroll it and hold it out, letting it drape over my thighs. It isn’t mine. The label reads a mens large, and I take a sharp inhale when I realise what it is. Hadn’t I ever given this back to him? I was always sure that I had. I lay it onto the carpet in front of me and snap a picture of it on my phone. 

Opening up my messenger I attach the photo, typing a quick message.

I check.

I was wondering what happened to that. I assumed my mom had tossed it out after doing laundry.

A full minute passes before he texts back, and I stare at the screen the whole time. The little typing dots appear and then disappear.

Wow, that’s far in advance. It’s October.

Yeah but there’ll be a huge birthday party for someone, it’ll be fun if you’re there. 

One of your extravagant dress up parties?

Haha. Yeah. At my friend’s. He lives in a nice apartment. Plus, flights are cheap in February.

Cheap flights? I’m sold.

It feels like the conversation has come to its natural conclusion, and yet I find myself wanting more. 

How’s Berlin right now? 

Alright.

Another minute passes. I leave my phone down and go about clearing out the rest of the gear bag, more old socks, a mostly empty bottle of suncream, cheap flip flops, a coin purse with two cent in it. The phone buzzes again and I reach for it. 

Hey, could you do me a favour?

I frown. 

Yeah…? 

Will you ask Michelle for her number for me?

Your ex?

Yeah, she got a new phone ages ago and I don’t have her number anymore. I know she’s going out with that guy you work with, so if it’s no hassle would you mind? 

Yeah okay. I just don’t know her that well. 

You can tell her that I’m the one asking. She’ll know what it’s about, but if you don’t want to, I completely get it. I can find another way to get it. 

I think I’m seeing her next week, actually. We’re going to the same party, so. 

Ah, Shane’s Halloween thing?

I almost type “Jen doesn’t have it?” Before quickly curling my fingers into a fist. There’s so many things I want to know but I can’t ask him anything. Even if I did, I know that he wouldn’t tell me. It’s infuriatingly secretive, like the polar opposite of Jen, who tells everyone everything.  

I really appreciate it, Evie. It’s not urgent or anything, it’d just be good to have her details.

I toss my phone onto my bed and head towards the chest of drawers, preparing myself for the ancient horrors that await me there, and it’s bad, like I expected and yet I don’t really mind it anymore. It’s a bit cathartic, honestly, to dump all of this old stuff. It’s like I’m clearing space inside myself too, emptying psychic drawers to make space for something new. It’s two hours before I’m finished, and as I lie exhausted on my bed afterwards, I reach for my phone to discover one last unread message. 

You’ll have to swear you’ll visit me in Berlin, btw. I meant it when I invited you.

I grin. 

Yes, of course. We’ll make it happen.

The new Spanish Collector's Edition release of Mirai Nikki is chock-full of goodies

It was just last August that the first Spanish dub of Mirai Nikki was first announced by SelectaVision (alongside the first Spanish dub of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and its follow-up film). And now those Spanish dubs are available on blu-ray and DVD in Europe... along with a really impressive Collector's Edition for Mirai Nikki!

BEHOLD! It's crazy how fast SelectaVision went from announcing this set to fully releasing it. I actually missed the entire announcement window and then BOOM, it was already out when I learned about it.

Items #1 and #2 in the above image are just the box and the actual disks, which actually include the test OVA that predates the series. And while that's a neat inclusion, I think the most compelling content is the rest of the items included in the set.

#3 is a soundtrack CD with 20 tracks from the series.

#4 is a "mini-container box" for the disks (for some reason).

#5 is a series of 9 "Maxicards" — Sakae Esuno illustrations printed in a large size.

#6 is is a 68x48 poster with different artwork on each side.

#7 is a set of die-cut character stickers.

#8 consists of 19 trading cards (made from 9 'card models,' whatever that is).

#9 is a replica of Yuki's signature beanie, of course.

#10 is a 40-page booklet containing character sheets, background information, soundtrack details, and an image gallery.

At a price of 120 Euros, this doesn't come cheap... but I still feel tempted to get one for myself. That asking price actually feels justified (IMO) in light of all that's included! I'm not sure if I'll take the plunge, but either way? I hope we ALL get to see the contents of that 40-page booklet one day.

By the way, the standard edition has different cover art than the collector's set. It looks like this:

I admit I don't care for SelectaVision's cover choices. I think Japan, the U.S., and the UK have all produced better cover art for the series. But hey, what does that really matter? It's the content that's the meat of the package — not the box.

I think it’s worth reminding ourselves that the first thing that moved Shia wasn’t studying Padre Pio himself, who probably would have been absolutely incomprehensible as an inroads to faith for someone lacking any sense of it, it wasn’t the liturgy, it wasn’t any of the books that he would eventually become so versed in. it was people letting him eat their ice cream and pet their cats, people telling him jokes, people who weren’t demanding anything of him. and then, it was the Gospels.

Alright, time to convince y'all to watch the funny phantom thief anime

Kaitou Joker (also known as Mysterious Joker) revolves around the titular Joker, a professional phantom thief and self-proclaimed "Miracle Maker," as he steals treasures with the help of his ninja assistant, Hachi. Shenanigans ensue such as singing about curry really badly, stealing an entire train car for a frying pan, and getting taken to hell by an elementary school student (albeit that happens in the manga)

The fun thing about KJ is that literally 90% of the cast are orphans and also a lot of them are still kids :) In the first episode Joker literally gets shot and visible blood is shown, and it only gets worse from there! :) This kid is not okay and can fit so much trauma into him.

But despite it all, you can count on Joker to pull off a miracle in the end that'll make sure everything turns out okay! The show has such a great story, and so many memorable quotes, too (a personal favorite of mine being "A lie you stick to so hard that you’ll die for it.... that’s no different from the truth, right?” which, as a resident Kiriya Kujo enjoyer, yeah-)

The series has 4 seasons, each with 13 episodes (get it? Like. Like cards-). Crunchyroll officially subbed the whole thing but I'm like 99% it's not on there anymore, plus Disney had this one really terrible obscure dub of the first 2 seasons (but I will admit it did give us Joker cursing). While the manga it's based off of isn't officially translated, @kaitoujokerscans has translated the manga up to chapter 77, as well as a few of the light novels, choose your own adventure books, and 2 drama cds.
